BSS FIELD PROJECT ON COMMUNITY WOODLANDS
IN SCOTLAND (2006 – 2010)
This
project is being carried out in collaboration with the Community Woodlands Association (CWA). The aims are to record plant
diversity in community woodlands in Scotland
and to describe the structure of the woodlands by
assessing the abundance of each age-class for every species of tree and
shrub. While carrying out the project we hope to interest people in
monitoring their woodlands. This enjoyable activity will facilitate future
management strategies. At the end of the project we intend to publish
the results as a formal paper in a scientific journal and as a booklet
and/or PDF file for popular interest.
If
you would like to take part in this project, please contact the CWA, to be
put in touch with a woodland group in your preferred area and to check that
they would like their woodland to be included in the project.
We
are asking you (BSS members, CWA members or any other interested people) to
help us by gathering data for the project. All instructions and recording sheets are downloadable from
this website (links at left). If you
need more help, or advice, than is given below please contact:
